Legendary reggae artiste, Ukeleke Onwubya, popularly known as Ras Kimono has been reported dead.
According to reports, the 60-year-old Under Pressure crooner died today, 10th of June after a brief illness. The singer who was scheduled to travel to the United State last night had started complaining about not feeling too well only for him to be rushed to the hospital in Ikeja then to Lagoon but sadly couldn’t make it.
In his recent interview with Punch Newspaper, the late singer revealed his vegetarian lifestyle, stating that he had been a vegetarian for the past 37 years and stayed away from alcohol and smoking.
“I have never smoked and I don’t drink alcohol. I tell people I have been a vegetarian for 37 years. Even when my friends were having S3x with two girls at the same time in those days, I didn’t join them. I have never done what these girls and boys call threesome despite being famous and I am sure there are other people who have never done that too.
“When people attribute recklessness to youthful exuberance, I get worried because I once passed through that stage too. I believe it is all about your upbringing. The fact that you are young doesn’t mean you should be wayward.”
Details of his death haven’t been made public yet. The singer will definitely be remembered especially for his songs which have a great impact on the society and Nigerian music.
May his soul rest in peace.
