In an attempt to decongest traffic along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lagos State Government on Wednesday announced that it would remove three roundabouts namely the – 4th Roundabout (Elegushi); 5th Roundabout (Jakande) and the 8th Roundabout (VGC) – along the highway.
Addressing the State House correspondents on the resolved of the government to execute the projects, Steve Ayorinde, the state commissioner for information and strategy, said plans were also underway to deploy 13,000 closed circuit cameras (CCTvs) across the metropolis.

The commissioner said the affected roundabouts would be replaced by the use of traffic lights, expansion of the roads and provision of dedicated turning lanes as well as additional lay-bys.
The state also announced its readiness to begin the construction of a fly-over in the popular Pen Cinema junction in Agege, aimed at freeing the area of its perennial traffic jam.
Speaking on the development, the state’s Commissioner for Works, Ganiyu Johnson said that the government will embark on the construction of a flyover at Pen Cinema located at the Agege axis of the state.
“The Pen-Cinema flyover has been a recurring decimal in this state to solve the gridlock there. This flyover will bring to three the number of flyover undertaken by this government after the Abule-Egba and Ajah flyovers which are on course,” he said.
The Pen Cinema fly-over is the third of such infrastructure to be undertaken by the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration after the ones at Abule-Egba and Ajah roundabout.
