Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has commended the military for liberating Nigeria’s communities in the North-East previously held by terrorists.
Atiku, who hails from the troubled region, made the commendation in a statement by his Deputy Head of Media, Mr Paul Ibe, which was released in Abuja on Wednesday.
The statement said that the successful military operations in the areas justified the earlier position held by leaders of the region that working with local people would bring better results.
“Although these operations could have come earlier, it is important to commend the military for coming to the aid of the communities in the affected areas.
“Incursions on small communities are still happening, as retreating insurgents raid for food; I hope the operations strategy is aware of this, and mops up as needed.
“It is also my hope that the Nigerian military, neighbouring forces, local leaders and vigilante groups will continue to collaborate towards decisively ending this insurgency,” the statement added
