Filippo Inzaghi admits he is both “angry and happy” with his players after AC Milan beat Parma 5-4 on Sunday.
Giacomo Bonaventura put the Rossoneri in front on his debut before Antonio Cassano levelled against his former side.
Keisuke Honda and a Jeremy Menez penalty then made it 3-1, but Felipe pulled a goal back for the home side to put them back in the game, while they were further boosted by the dismissal of Daniele Bonera after the break.
However, Nigel de Jong then seemingly put Milan out of reach at 4-2, yet incredibly there was more drama still to follow. Alessandro Lucarrelli scored for Parma, who then had Felipe sent off, as Menez struck for a second time to make it 5-3.
Mattia De Sciglio scored an own goal late on to put the hosts within touching distance of a late comeback, but Milan held on to the delight of Inzaghi, despite his obvious concerns over his side’s defence.
“I am angry yes, but we must be very happy as well,” he said. “This is an amazing group, let’s not forget where we are from. The boys have an amazing spirit and despite our defensive errors the fans should be very pleased.
“It would be a shame if we hadn’t won the game, we were always in the lead. Our goals came from amazing combinations.”
The win makes it two wins out of two for Milan at the start of new season, but Inzaghi was quick to dismiss the prospect of his side challenging for the title, despite admitting they are more than capable of beating the reigning champions next week.
He added: “They are a team that is out of reach. We have a lot to learn but in a one-off game at San Siro, who knows? With enthusiasm and quality we can make it. Difficult times will come but I trust the team, we have incredible spirit. For now we should enjoy being in good company at the top of the table.”
